Lansky

Definition

Lansky is the internal application that runs the business calculators used across the platform. It can refer either to the calculator file itself (an .xlsx spreadsheet) or to the calculation engine that reads and executes that file.

Context

Lansky is used whenever data flows are processed to calculate insurance premiums, pricing, or other business values. In addition to premium calculations, Lanskys can also be used to generate intermediate variables in a data flow, such as date computations, text combinations, or logic-driven results.

Why Excel ?

We chose Excel because it’s already the natural tool used by most of our clients.
Business experts, actuaries, and underwriters are already comfortable with its interface and formula system.
Rather than forcing them to learn a new proprietary language or custom UI, we built Lansky around Excel to leverage that existing expertise.

Excel is not just a calculation engine — it’s also a testing and design environment.
It allows users to prototype, test, and validate their business calculators entirely within Excel, using native formulas and visual feedback.
Once the calculator behaves as expected, it can be uploaded and executed by the Lansky engine inside our application — ensuring a smooth transition from design to production.

At the same time, Excel remains one of the most powerful and flexible tools for modeling business logic — supporting complex formulas, cross-sheet references, and dynamic calculations — all without code.
This makes it possible to create robust and maintainable calculators that feel native to the business world.
